Operations Manager


The Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the plant operation and inside sales in Newmarket. This entails managing the facility and ensuring the plant operates efficiently, cost effectively and safely.  In addition, the incumbent will ensure production is maximized, conduct product cost estimations, ensure procurement of raw material coincides with production, inventory, distribution and sales of products, inside sales and customer service, and managing and developing plant staff.



Operational Management

  • Ensures business operations fulfill company requirements, meets company policies and goals within departments of Manufacturing, Materials Management, Production Administration, Inside Sales and Customer Service and Warehousing in the Newmarket location
  • Develops processes and procedures to meet the above requirements and improve communications
  • Supports Outside Sales staff to accommodate customer needs
  • Supports branch operations through cross training, cross manufacturing, training and communication
  • Evaluates and monitors the Newmarket workplace safety program for efficiency and consistency
  • Compiles and generates reports for the Executive team
  • Maintains the integrity of data in manufacturing, procurement and sales internal processes 
  • Monitors daily production activities, production planning with sales activities
  • Assures quality standards are being meet and conducts non-conformance investigations
  • Updates and prepares BOMs (Building of Materials) and routings to ensure accuracy of data
  • Ensures stock transfers are accurately completed and timely
  • Monitors the employee activities in the manufacturing plant, inside sales, procurement and distribution center
  • Oversees and ensures that workplace health, safety and WSIB guidelines are adhered to in the Plant
  • Monitors and authorizes purchase orders and expense items
  • Monitors inventory levels, safety stocks, minimum and maximum inventory
  • Monitors Warehouse Management (AX), Ensures utilization of storage facilities are maximized
  • Monitors security , HVAC, Heating, Electrical, Structural maintenance requirement and coordinate third party services
  • Responsible for the purchasing of project based R&D material and equipment
  • Establishes department lead times
  • Approves credit authorization for return materials or non-conforming items, authorizes material return
  • Creates internal order creation, costing and settlements
  • Processes month end reports



  • Post-secondary education in a related business discipline preferred*
  • 4+ Project Manager Experience (PMP certification an asset)
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment, of which 2 years must be in a managerial role
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing, production planning, inside sales, warehousing and procurement
  • Knowledge of legislations pertaining to employment, human rights, safety, WSIB and transportation are required
  • General knowledge of supply chain management and costing and estimation 
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Commitment to and concern for workplace safety
